Description

Indenture made between the reverend William Fisher Clerk, Canon Residentiary and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and George Smith of New Sarum in the county of Wiltshire Gentleman of the other part. The said Warden and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said George Smith a messuage and tenement with the houses and buildings belonging to it formerly called or known by the sign of the vine situated in New Sarum in a certain place there called the Marketplace, bounded on the east with the Marketplace, on the west with the river, on the north with the lands late of Samuel Eyre esquire and since of George Short deceased and on the south with the church yard of the Parish of St Thomas. The said premises were late in the occupation of George Short the Younger and are delineated on the plan in the margin of these presents. To have and to hold for 40 years. The annual rent was £10 to be paid at the two feasts of the year in equal portions. There is a coloured plan in the margin. Signed, sealed and delivered by William Fisher in the presence of [no name given]. 'unexecuted' and 'Vine Inn Mkt Place' are written in pencil on the back.
