Description
Counterpart of indenture (CO/CH/5/1/33/24) made between William Coxe Clerk and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter owners and proprietors of the parsonage of Preshute in the county of Wiltshire of the one part and Thomas Best and Hannah Clark widow executors named in and by the last will and testament of John Clark late of Preshute Esquire deceased of the other part. The said Master and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said Thomas Best and Hannah Clark their mansion or parsonage house commonly called the Parsonage House of Preshute together with the houses, edifices, buildings, barns, stables, outhouses, courts, yards, backsides, curtilages, orchards and gardens with the appurtenances belonging to it, and also meadows, pastures, arable lands, commons, common of pasture and all other glebe lands whatsoever together with all manner of ways, paths and passages, and profits. Except one ground or close of land called Gods Croft [Godscroft] and all manner of timber trees and other trees likely to become timber during the term granted. Also tithes from the hamlet of Manton in the parish of Preshute. To have and to hold for 21 years. The annual rent was £50 to be paid at the four usual feasts of the year in equal portions. Sealed and delivered by Hannah Clark being first stamped in the presence of [?] Merriman of [Marlborough] Gent. There are pencil annotations on the document. There was a note pinned to the top which reads, 'N.B. The Rev[erend] Mr. Best was dead some time before this Lease bears date.'
