Description

Counterpart of indenture (CO/CH/5/1/33/8) made between Robert Gilbert Clerk and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter owners and proprietors of the parsonage of Preshute in the county of Wiltshire of the one part and Anna Compton of East Choldrington [Cholderton] in the parish of Amport in the county of Southampton widow of the other part. The said Master and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said Anna Compton their mansion or parsonage house commonly called the Parsonage House of Preshute together with the houses, edifices, buildings, barns, stables, outhouses, courts, yards, backsides, curtilages, orchards and gardens with the appurtenances belonging to it, and also meadows, pastures, arable lands, commons, common of pasture and all other glebe lands whatsoever together with all manner of ways, paths and passages, and profits. Except one ground or close of land called Gods Croft [Godscroft]. Also tithes from the hamlet of Manton in the parish of Preshute. To have and to hold for 21 years. The annual rent was £50 to be paid at the four usual feasts of the year in equal portions. Sealed and delivered, being first stamped, in the presence of [Elizabeth] Compton and Thomas Compton.
