Description

Indenture made between John Bampton Clerk, Canon Residentiary and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and John Greenland of Marlborough [Marlborough] in the county of Wiltshire yeoman of the other part. The said Master Warden and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said John Greenland their portion of tithes arising from the hamlet or tithing of Elcott in the parish of Preshute formerly in the use and occupation of Walter Shropshire deceased and now in the possession of John Greenland together with all the privileges and appurtenances. To have and to hold for 11 years. The annual rent was £47 at the two feasts of the year in equal portions. Signed, sealed and delivered, being first stamped, in the presence of Francis Greenaway and Thomas Martin public notary. There is a note on the back which states, 'M[emorandum] [Pr..ton] Lease not Regist[e]red. [part. & Counterpart] were both Deliv[ered] to Can[on] [...g..].'
