Counterpart of indenture made between William Coxe Clerk and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and William Smith of Tilshed or Tilshead in the county of Wiltshire yeoman eldest son and heir of Anthony Smith late shepherd deceased of the other part. The said Master and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said William Smith their cottage or tenement with the appurtenances in Tilshead late in the possession of Anthony Smith and now in the possession of William Smith. To have and to hold for and during the natural lives of William Smith 35 years, George Kite 4 years and Thomas Smith brother in law of William Smith aged 18 years for and during the natural life of the longest liver of them. The annual rent was 3s on the Feast of St Michael. Sealed and delivered, being first stamped, in the presence of William Hayward. There are pencil annotations on the document.
