Description

Surrender from William Smith of Tilshed or Tilshead yeoman to the Master of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter, of an indenture of lease dated 27 Feb 1808 (CO/CH/5/1/37/11) of a cottage or tenement with the appurtenances for the lives of William Smith, George Kite and Thomas Smith. George Kite being lately deceased, William Smith wished to add another life, which Frederick Pleydell Bouverie [Pleydell-Bouverie] the Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter agreed to. William Smith in consideration of the sum of 5s paid by Frederick Pleydell-Bouverie and the Dean and Chapter surrendered and yielded up unto the said Master and Dean and Chapter the said cottage or tenement with the appurtenances and all other premises demised in the said lease, so that the said indenture might be cancelled and that the Master and Dean and Chapter might be enabled to grant a new lease for and during the natural lives of William Smith aged 57, Thomas Smith aged 40 and John Maslen aged 14 (son of James Maslen of Tilshead miller). Signed, sealed and delivered, being first stamped, in the presence of James Hayward and William Hayward. This was enclosed within the counterpart lease dated 22 Nov 1830 (CO/CH/5/1/37/15).
