Description

Indenture made between Frederick Pleydell Bouverie [Pleydell-Bouverie] Clerk and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and William Smith of Tilshed or Tilshead in the county of Wiltshire yeoman of the other part. The said Master Warden and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said William Smith their cottage or tenement with the appurtenances in Tilshead late in the possession of Anthony Smith and now in the possession of William Smith. To have and to hold for and during the natural lives of William Smith aged 57, Thomas Smith brother of William Smith aged 40 and John Maslen aged 14 (son of James Maslen of Tilshead miller) and for and during the natural life of the longest liver of them. The annual rent was 3s on the Feast of St Michael. There is a memo on the back stating that on 15 Dec 1830 possession and seisin was had and taken by William Lawes one of the attorneys named by the Master and Dean and Chapter, and this was delivered unto William Smith, signed by William Lawes and Christopher Pain. Signed, sealed and delivered by Frederick Pleydell-Bouverie, being first stamped, in the presence of William Hayward of the Close. A paper label was attached to the document, marked 'Choristers Cottage + premises at Tilshead Wilts leased to Mr William Smith.' This has been rehoused and left with the document but not catalogued.
