Description
Indenture made between William Fisher Clerk and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and Robert Coleman of Tilshead in the county of Wiltshire veterinary surgeon of the other part. The said Master and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said Robert Coleman their cottage or tenement with the appurtenances in Tilshed or Tilshead formerly in the possession of Anthony Smith late of William Smith. To have and to hold for and during the natural lives of William Smith aged 74, John Maslen aged 31 (son of James Maslen of Tilshead miller) and Elizabeth Coleman daughter of Robert Coleman aged 9 and for and during the natural life of the longest liver of them. The annual rent was 3s on the Feast of St Michael. There is a memo on the back that on 21 May 1847 possession and seisin was taken by George Smith one of the attorneys named by the Master and Dean and Chapter, and possession and seisin was by George Smith delivered unto and taken by Robert Coleman, signed by Matthew Jones and John Coleman. Signed, sealed and delivered by William Fisher in the presence of G[eorge] Smith Clerk to Mr Alford Solicitor in Salisbury. A paper note was found in the box, marked 'Choristers Cottage + premises at Tilshead Wilts, in Lease to Robert Coleman.' This has been rehoused in melinex and left in the box (it has not been catalogued).
