Description

Indenture made between the Procurator and Commonalty of the Vicars of the Cathedral Church of Sarum on the one part and Richard Floyd of New Sarum baker. The Procurator and Commonalty of Vicars lease to the said Richard Floyd several messuages or tenements and gardens with their appurtenances: their messuage or tenement with the appurtenances in the City of New Sarum near a bridge called Blackbridge together with one garden ground adjoining it (25x12ft); together with free ingress, egress and regress into and from the house of office appertaining unto the same tenement which has the King's highway on the north part; also their tenement with the appurtenances in the City of New Sarum in [?Ivys] Street ('Joy' in the endorsement, and it is possible that the text is 'Joys,' however there is no such street in Salisbury, whilst Ivy Street does exist) with a little garden plot there (27x12ft) abutting upon the watercourse called the Ditch on the east part and the King's highway on the north part and also all that moiety of building on the Ditch. To have and to hold the messuages or tenements and gardens with the appurtenances together with free ingress, egress and regress to and from the said house of office unto Richard Floyd for 40 years. The annual rent was 16 shillings and 8 pence to be paid at the 4 feasts of the year and also one couple of fat capons on the feast of the purification of Mary to be delivered at the Common Hall of the said Vicars during the said term or 2 shillings in lieu of the capons at the election and choice of the Procurator and Commonalty.
