Description

Lease between the Procurator and Commonalty of Vicars of the Cathedral Church of Sarum on the one part and William Bowles of West Hanny [Hanney] in the county of Berkshire, Margaret Chesterman of Lyford in the county of Berkshire widow and Charles Collins of East Hanny [Hanney] in the county of Berkshire on the other part. The Procurator and Commonalty of Vicars lease to the said William Bowles, Thomas [Margaret] Chesterman and Charles Collins the parsonage of West Hanney and the houses, edifices, buildings, barns, stables gardens, orchards, glebe lands, tenements, meadows, leases, pastures, commons, feedings, tyths [tithes], fruits, profits, commodities, emoluments and hereditaments belonging to the said parsonage. Also all their glebe lands, meadows, leases, pastures, woods, underwoods, commons, tithes, tenths, oblations and hereditaments whatsoever in the several parishes, towns, hamlets or fields of West Hanney, North Denchworth, Lyford and East Hanney, and all the tithe of two grist mills in the parish of West Hanney. To have and to hold the said parsonage, houses, buildings, barns, stables, gardens, orchards, lands, tenements, tithes, hereditaments and all other [premises] with the appurtenances for and during the term of the natural lives of the said William Bowles, William [Margaret] Chesterman and Charles Collins their heirs and assigns and the life of the longest liver of them. The annual rent was £47 and for the pension of the Vicars of West Hanney £3 to be paid at or in the Common Hall of the Procurator and Commonalty of Vicars in the Close at the 4 feasts of the year. On the reverse is written, 'on the fourteenth day of February in the year of our Lord 1753 The within named William Barman pursuant to the authority within granted to him did enter into the Parsonage House within mentioned and being in the peaceable Pos[es]sion thereof and of all the prem[is]es within granted The quiet [and] peaceable pos[es]sion [and] seizin thereof did deliver to the within named William Bowles Thomas Chesterman and Charles Collins To hold to them their Heirs [and] assigns during their Natural lives according to the form [and] effect of the within written Indenture.' The witnesses were Ann Scroggs and John Collins.
