Description
This is one of 4 letters (not previously catalogued) found enclosed in CO/VC/4/3/3/8, which are about the house (Close No 1) bequeathed in trust to Peregrine Bingham by Charlotte Poore. Letter from P[eregrine] Bingham, in which he states that he will send the proper extract from Mrs [Charlotte] Poore’s will and will not object to pay the same amount as by Mrs Poore which his friend Mr George Benson told him was £71.1.0, which is different to 'the amount mentioned by you.' Should it turn out to be £76.1.0, 'my excellent friend must abate something of the [?]eulogy he has passed on the community of Vicars Choral for extraordinary abstinence in the apportion of their rights; for that sum will be more than one year and 7/8ths improved rent, and I never heard of a demand which exceeded two years of such rent…' On the back of the letter he writes, 'P.S. since writing the within, I have received your letter stating that the fine is to be £71 and a guinea, and not 75 and a guinea.'
