Description
Certificate of appointment signed and sealed by Dean John Elkins, appointing George Wakeman to the vicarage of the parish church of Bishopstone, a 'peculiar decanal jurisdiction of Sarum.' The vacancy arose by the death of the previous incumbent. George Wakeman is presented to the Dean by Reverend William Whitworth holder of the prebend of Bishopstone. The certificate drawn up at Newton Tony.
An additional note on the reverse certifies that George Wakeman was inducted to the vicarage of Bishopstone on the 2nd May 1789 witnessed by Wyatt Cottle and churchwarden Abraham Edmunds (signed). A further note by Will aim Boucher, Chapter Clerk [?] reads as follows 'Exhibited at the Triennial [?] of the Reverend and Worshipful John Elkins D.D. Dean of Sarum held at Highworth the 25th of July 1791.'
