Description
"A Map of the Diocese of Salisbury shewing the boundaries of the Rural Deaneries and of the Ecclesiastical Parishes in the four Archdeaconries". Published by Edward Stanford Ltd, "Cartographers to His Majesty", October 1924. "Based upon the Ordnance Survey Map with the sanction of the Controller of H M Stationery Office".
The colour-coded map shows, in five colours, the four archdeaconries, the 31 deaneries and portions thereof, and the individual parishes of the diocese.
The map belonged to Canon (Stephen) Douglas Montague Davys, Prebendary of Teynton Regis (1937-1955). He was Vicar of Urchfont (1915-1929), Dean of Enford (1925-1929) and Vicar of North Bradley (1929-1955). The parishes of Urchfont and North Bradley are highlighted by hand in ink on the map.
The map is 100mm x 165mm folded, 500mm x 500mm when open. It is clear and in relatively clean condition, but it is pulling apart at the folds and therefore fragile.
Canon Davys was the father of Dr Michael Davys (1922-2002), a friend of the donor.
