Description
A greetings card imprinted with an illustration by Rex Whistler to Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels showing a man in eighteenth century costume reaping with a sickle while another, tiny, human figure gesticulates. Surrounded by a border of agricultural implements and produce, clothing and, in a cartouche, the text, "He screams as loud as Fear can make him, whereupon the huge Creature at last espies him".
Rex Whistler's 26 illustrations to Gulliver's Travels were first republished with the complete text in 1984.
Handwritten inside the card: "For Christopher & Henrietta, to wish them happiness in MCMLXXXIV from Laurence".
"Christopher" is presumably Christopher McCall KC who gifted this and related items to the Cathedral.
