Description

Part of the Great Seal of James I from his reign after the union of the English and Scottish crowns in 1603 until his death in 1625. About half of the Seal is extant. The figure of the King holding the orb and sceptre and part of the canopy can be discerned on the obverse. Part of the figures of the King and his horse can be discerned on the reverse, together with the dog running below. The Seal is attached to a strip of parchment but there is no evidence of the nature of the document to which it was atached.
