Description
A copy of the service booklet for "From Darkness to Light", "A Procession on the First Sunday in Advent", 1974, annotated by Richard Seal (1935-2022), organist and master of the choristers (1968-1997).
The hand-written annotations comprise what Richard Seal calls the "Lighting Plot" for the service, as issued to those responsible for lighting and extinguishing the candles and controlling the electric light switches, of which there were nearly 100 in 1974. The detailed instructions and lists of light switch number (such as "Check that Crossing Lights are off, before the service starts"; "60 61 67 68 & all remaining lights") are interspersed with humourous comments ("On with the skates"; "Nip round the back"; "Light up the pipe. Set fire to the organ").
Page 10 bears splashes of candle wax.
Given by Henry Moule who was involved in the "From Darkness to Light" service for 20 years as a "taperer". As he says "Richard's sense of humour shines through our instructions".
