Description
Programme for a performance of Handel's Messiah in Salisbury Cathedral on 6 December 1922.
A single sheet, folded to make four pages. Three pages with the text of the oratorio, one with "Notes". Between the text of Part I and Part II:
"During a short Interval a Collection will be made. It is hoped that everyone will contribute liberally towards the Expenses which will be about £150". A few pencil annotations, not all legible.
The perfomers included soprano Carrie Tubb (1876-1976) and contralto Astra Desmond (1893-1973); the conductor was Walter Galpin Alcock (1861-1947), Organist of Salisbury Cathedral (1916-1947); the organist was Cuthbert Osmund, Assistant Organist (1917-1927).
With a newspaper cutting of a review of the performance, headed "Great Musical Success".
