Description

Contains eight envelopes mainly containing notes taken from sixteenth century fabric records. Envelope one titled 'F R Fisher Mr Osmund', includes a letter dated 2nd Jul 1870 from Mr Osmund referring to the Clerestory window in the south choir, the stone basement of the Hungerford Chapel, the belfry and the bell in the tower, foundations of the Cathedral at Old Sarum and the location of Bishop Osmund's grave. Envelope two titled 'The Rev Mr Kingston Washing Altars, includes a letter dated 5th April 1869 from Rev Kingdon commenting on a list of the altars washed down on Maundy Thursday taken from another unnamed source. Envelope three titled 'Mr Hardings Translations' includes notes on altars and the organ. Envelope four titled 'The Rev Mr Kington's Translations' includes notes relating the windows. Envelope five titled 'Mr Hussey's Translation of the Latin Reports from the year 1480, 1481, Import accounts connected with the new arch under the Tower. There are two books to be translated with the book above I believe their dates to be 1530 and the other 1539 - they are tied together' and includes extracts from accounts of the clerk of works 1474-1480/1481. Envelope six titled 'F R Fisher' and includes a letter dated 22nd December 1868 from John Parker re work on drains carried out at the Bishop's Palace in 1843. Envelope seven titled 'Supposed to be by C Hussey Esq Mason employed as Richard of Farley 1335'. Envelope eight 'The property of F R Fisher' and contains the report of Fisher to the Salisbury Cathedral Restoration Committee on the state of the Tower together with two plans.
