Description

Three tracings or designs for a stained glass window assembled from grisaille fragments in 1896 by Alfred Octavius Hemming who was also responsible for the grisaille in the north window of the North Transept. These cartoons relate to window S13 - the south window in the SE Transept (outer vestry). The two longer sections (a & b) are horizontal in the centre light of S13, one halfway up, the other two thirds up. The window for the smaller cartoon (c) is in the left light near the top but only half of the cartoon has been incorporated into the window. There are three inscriptions on the reverse of (a): 8 S.E. Transept studio (3l) dexter light just below Sprug (or Spring (? Roy Spring clerk of works)) 1/2 only Salisbury Cathedral S. window S.E [?] S.window S.E. Transept 8 S E Transept dexter light Just below Sprug [?]. There are three inscriptions on the reverse of (b): S Window S.E Transept Salisbury Cathedral S Window S.E. [?] There are two inscriptions on the reverse of (c): 7 S window S.E. transept dexter light, lower part [?] [?] Salisbury Cathedral S Window SE Transept
