Description

Letters Patent of Henry VI in which he grants a licence to Richard Bishop of Salisbury, notwithstanding the Statute of Mortmain, to give lands held in chief of the King in exchange for lands held immediately of him [the Bishop]. The lands are all in Ramsbury, and are as follows [the lands held in chief of the King come first, those of the Bishop immediately second]: two messuages, 88 acres of land and eight acres of wood, given to Henry Hale the younger and his wife Joan, in exchange for 102 acres of land, 12 acres of meadow, and 30 acres of wood. Two acres of land to William York, gentleman, in exchange of two acres of land. Four acres of land to Elizabeth Darell, in exchange for four acres of land. Two acres of land to Richard Darell, in exchange for two acres of land. two acres of land to Henry Long and John Wittokesmede, in exchanges for two acres of land. He also gives licence to the Bishop to enlarge his park at Ramsbury by 300 acres of land and 100 acres of wood and to enclose the same by ditches, hedges etc.
