Description
[Communar's accounts], nd. Given similarities to FI/1/1/1540/5, the Communar may have been Richard Arche. The names of the canons indicate that it might be dated somewhere between 1512 and 1544 (John Gough and John Bigges died in or by 1544). Someone has written in a modern hand on the back of the roll that it is pre 1539. The paper catalogue suggests that it is pre-Reformation, and a note previously attached to the roll (now disposed of) suggested Jan-Mar. Having compared this roll to other rolls, the hand looks (in my opinion) very similar to FI/1/1/1540/1, FI/1/1/1540/3, FI/1/1/1541/1 and FI/1/1/1541/3 (which are all only estimated to be either 1540 or 1541), and so I think that this roll might date from around the same time, or perhaps a little earlier if the Communar is Richard Arche who first appears in these rolls in 1532.
