Description

A report by Roger Blench on the musical instruments and the angels playing them carved on the choir stalls. The carvings were designed by George Gilbert Scott between 1865 and 1871 and intended to appear medieval. This paper compares the instruments with known genuine medieval representations of the instruments. (Roger Blench is associated with the McDonald Insititute for Archaelological Research, Cambridge; the University of Jos, Nigeria; and the Kay Williamson Educational Foundation).
