Full text of two labels adhered to the front cover. Label one 'Volumes added since the compilation of the 1880 Catalogue, with the exception of any works published prior to 1700, which will be retained in the main Library and form an addendum to works included in the 1880 Catalogue. Many items in the supplement covering the Dean Hamilton Library will be removed and re-catalogued with the more modern stock', Label two 'Amended Catalogue As from 16th March 1979, the Library Committee (The Dean, Chancellor, Librarian and Mrs Grant) decided that for future arrangement of Library stock, the original system of shelf numbers would be continued for the post 1880 material and accordingly, although books would be grouped in subject blocks as far as possible, any subject cataloguing would be dispensed with. Accordingly the cataloguing of these works being undertaken by the Librarian (Mr Dedman) would continue on cards in an alphabetical and detailed fashion, and eventually shelf numbers would be entered on the cards in place of Dewey or other class numbers at present thereon, and all further card entries would leave the top left hand corner blank to receive the shelf number at some future date.' The books are listed in order of accession but there is no date of receipt with only the number, class, author and title recorded.
