Description
A short list of references taken from the Fabric Accounts between 1558 and 1619 by W H R Blacking FRIBA on 22 June 1944. Includes references to: purchasing books for worship particularly for use by members of the choir; binding bibles; 'Paid to the bearer of torches on Corpus Cristie days'; 'paid to iii men for foure mornings to keep down the people from climbing the quier walls'; 'to Jo Davys for rushes during the King being here'. At the end are two notes by Blacking: 'on the occasion of the King's visit with the Queen and Princes' (1610-1611). This item proves that at this date the orginal low stone wall still enclosed the entire quire'; 'The "Langford" referred to in the year 1581/82 resided, as a Vicar Choral, in a small house on the site of the present cottage in Rosemary Lane at the back of No. 21 and occupied by boys of the Choristers' School'.
