Description

A handwritten description of heraldic elements on: monuments and in stained glass mounted on the Cathedral walls beginning at the West Door; on heraldic devices on the Cathedral floor; The Hungerford Chantry Chapel. Four loose sheets of notes, some possibly in the hand of Canon Christopher Wordsworth, including a index of names described as: "Index to J.J. Hammond's heraldry in Salisbury Cathedral and to H.B.W [heatley]'s asterized names in his alphabetically list or index printed in [Wiltshire] Notes and Queries 125.1 May. 1916 and relating to the contents of vols I, II (folio) & 37 [?] of Mr T H Baker's MS. collection." Mr Baker's collection is now catalogued as archive DC/TB. An inscription on the first page reads "Heraldry of Salisbury Cathedral described for Mr T H Baker by John Joseph Hammond Esq now Chapter Clerk. This manuscript the property of John Joseph Hammond Esquire is by him presented to the Cathedral Library 15th Sept. 1916". The name of 'the Rev Charles Myers, M.A., Canon Residentiary has been crossed out.
