Description

Includes: record of Geste's shelfmarks; lists of 'shelf numbers of books which belonged to Bishop Gheast'; list of eight categories of ownership evidence re books belonging to Bishop Geste; list of Geste books arranged by author including title, shelfmark and other notes; pencil rubbings of bindings details thought to identifiable as characteristic of Geste's books; nine black and white photographs of annotations and binding details. Kept with the file is a collection of letters and notes from David Selwyn, concerning his work on the Geste collection, dating from the late 1970s. Also included is a letter dated 17 Sep 1948 from Neil Kerr to Canon Quirk regarding the Geste collection in which he states: 'So far as I know Geste's gift to you is the earliest large collection received by any college or cathedral after the reformation, apart from Parker's gift to Corpus, Cambridge, which is practically coeval with it as Parker died in 1575 and Geste in 1576.' Kerr refers to bindings as a method of identifying Geste's books and also 'the Patrick Young project' ie the manuscript book catalogues.
