Title
Southern Cathedrals Festival (SCF)
Description
The Southern Cathedrals Festival is a five day music festival held alternately at the cathedrals of Chichester, Winchester and Salisbury in the penultimate week of July. The festival was restored in 1960 by John Birch (Chichester) together with Christopher Dearnley (Salisbury) and Alwyn Surplice (Winchester). Prior to 1960 the Festival was known as Three Choirs Festival being first held informally in 1905. Initially from 1905 it lasted only one day (a Saturday), meetings were not held during the wars though it was revived briefly between 1920 and 1932. Not to be confused with a festival held by Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester Cathedrals also know as the Three Choirs Festival.
