Description

A purpose-made scrap-book with a colour photograph pasted to the front cover and a banner heading, "Salisbury Cathedral". The photograph, of the choir assembled before a Christmas tree and crib at the west end of the nave, is taken from a copy of "The Field" dated 1968. The book contains mainly press-cuttings with some other illustrations and notes, all relating to the history, features and contents of the Cathedral and to people associated with it. Principal topics referred to include: presentation of a new pastoral staff (1909); dedication by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Cosmo Lang, of a memorial to Dr St Clair Donaldson, Bishop of Salisbury 1921-1935 (1937); enthronement of Dr Geoffrey Charles Lunt, 72nd Bishop of Salisbury (1946), and his sudden death (1948); enthronement of Dr William Anderson, 73rd Bishop of Salisbury (1949); enthronement of Dr Joseph Edward Fison, 74th Bishop of Salisbury (1963); enthronement of George Reindorp, 75th Bishop of Salisbury (1973); "Behind the Scenes at Salisbury Cathedral" (1951); Son et Lumiière at the Cathedral (1972); launch of an appeal for £100,000 in aid of the Cathedral spire and tower (1950); visit of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the foundation of the Cathedral (1970); and floodlighting of the Cathedral (1958).
