Description
A purpose-made scrap-book with a cover design featuring seals (aquatic mammals, not devices for authenticating documents) and the heading, "Scrap Book".
The book contains press-cuttings relating to the history, features and contents of the Cathedral and to people and events associated with it. The coverage is more detailed and from a more narrow time-period than in other scrap-books. Some of the cuttings are inserted loose-leaf wwithout being pasted in. The main topics covered include:
a sponsorship scheme whereby the hamburger chain McDonald's would issue mock-parchment scrolls to visitors to the Cathedral, the retaining band of which could be exchanged in a 'two for the price of one' deal on Big Mac or McChicken sandwich meals, part of the proceeeds from which would be donated to the Cathedral; headlines included 'Cathedral hymnburgers', 'the fast supper' and 'Burger in the Cathedral'; animal rights activists complained of an 'unholy alliance'; the scheme was discontinued after the first batch of scrolls had been distributed (Aug-Sep 1992);
completion of the Spire Appeal, which raised £6.5 million in a seven-year period, celebrated in a thanksgiving service attended by HRH the Prince of Wales and by a 'light and sound spectacular' (Jul 1992);

Bishop John Baker welcomed the decision of General Synod to allow women in the priesthood (Nov 1992); further articles, including the text of a sermon by Bishop John Baker (May-Jul 1993);
a Blessing of Animals service (Nov 1992);
