Description

A series of press-cuttings relating to the history, features and contents of the Cathedral and to people and events associated with it. Originally filed in individual plastic wallets in two large plastic-covered ring-binders. The main topics covered include: the Cathedral's offer of holiday "Heritage Breaks" (Jan 1999); a sculpture exhibition in the Close as part of the city-wide "The Shape of the Century" (Jan 1999); an article about Robert Key, MP for Salisbury (Jan 1999); the proposed loan of the Cathedral's medieval clock to the National Maritime Museum for the millenium exhibition "The Story of Time" (Jan 1999); a "Sleep Out" in the Cathedral in aid of Alabare Christian Care Centres (Feb 1999); "Jobs go in cathedral cash crisis" - redundancies in the works department, including specialist craftspeople (Feb 1999); the dismissal of Barry Mason, head of visitor services at the Cathedral (Mar 1999); a Cathedral choir tour of South Africa (Apr 1999); "Volunteers kicked out of cloisters" - when the refectory catering contract was awarded to an independent company (Apr 1999); Myles Place damaged by a firework during the St George's Festival display (Apr 1999).
