Mandamus, 1854

This, a separate document with its own seal, seems to be the Mandamus referred to in the title of the "Grant with Mandamus" of the same date (PI/1/4/1), which document is only in fact a Grant. The Mandamus refers to that Grant to Rev Robert Bickersteth (1816-1884), Rector of St Giles-in-the-Fields, London, and Prebendary of Torleton, by which he was "given and granted . . . that Canonical House situate within the Close of the Canons of Sarum commonly called Ledynhull [Leadenhall]" for the term of his natural life. It continues to "Command" the Dean and Chapter to "assign or cause to be assigned to the said Robert Bickersteth a Stall in the Choir and a Place and Voice in the Chapter in all respects according to custom".
