For solo voice and continuo; includes figured bass, unrealized. With the exception of the 2nd song, the melody of each song is additionally printed, at a higher pitch, for the flute, in the case of the 3rd song "for the German or common flute."

A certain James Corfe was baptized at Salisbury Cathedral on 26th February, 1713 (new style); he is likely to have been identical with James Corfe, apprentice of Edward Thompson, organist of Salisbury Cathedral, during the period 1729-1730. A certain James Corfe is recorded in the Westminster Rate Books as residing in Bentinck Street [now Livonia Street, Soho] between 1743 and 1746.

On upper endleaves, in ink, a list of the contents of this bound collection, together with brief biographical notes, in the hand of Edward Charles Corfe.
Provenance
On verso of 3rd upper endleaf, the signature: "E. C. Corfe. Truro.", together with a cutting from a sale catalogue pasted onto the upper l.h. corner of this endleaf. Printed on this cutting are catalogue records describing the first 4 works in this bound collection; at auction, these works were given the lot numbers: 2283-2286 (the 3rd item has the lot number 2085 but this may be a printing error and should, perhaps, be 2285). The present work had the lot number: 2283. Above the cutting, in ink and in E. C. Corfe's hand, is the inscription: "Catalogue IX. Part 3. 1907. Ellis. 29 New Bond Street. W."

Accompanied by a letter, dated 9th December 1982, and an inventory (2 leaves) sent to Suzanne Eward from the firm of Travis & Emery, Cecil Court, London; at head of the inventory: "A collection of music by members of the Corfe family of Salisbury, from the Library of Canon E.T. [sic] Corfe, Precentor of Truro, removed from Corfe House, Bath".
