17th-century sprinkled brown calf over paper boards; sewn on four supports; boards decorated with blind fillets forming rectangular frame towards perimeter of boards, with additional vertical blind fillets towards spine; spine with four raised bands, blind fillets and blind hatching, and later gilt fillets; title written in ink on spine, partially covered by remains of leather spine label with author and title; date 1654 in gilt at tail of spine; blind roll around board edges; text block edges sprinkled red and blue; paper printed waste used as pastedowns; evidence of chain-plate at fore-edge of lower board.
