Suzanne Eward, former Cathedral Librarian, suggests that this may have been owned by Seth Ward, as the instructions for the spine title, written in ink on the upper pastedowns and now partially obscured by the bookplate, appear to be in what might be Ward's hand.

Provenance

Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (19th century) with 13th-century Dean and Chapter seal and inscription “Sarum Cathedral Library.”

Binding

17th-century dark brown calf over paper boards; sewn on four leather supports; boards decorated with gilt fillets forming rectangular frame towards perimeter of boards; spine with four raised bands and gilt fillets; gilt roll around board edges; text block edges sprinkled red. Light blue endleaves.
