Charter of Henry III in which he grants to Robert, Bishop of Salisbury, that he and his successors shall forever have a fair every year at his manor of Rammesbir' [Ramsbury], lasting for three days, that is to say, on the vigil and the feast day and the morrow of the Invention of the Holy Cross; and another fair there yearly lasting for three days, on the vigil, and the day, and the morrow of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross; and a fair yearly at his manor of Shyreburn' [Sherborne, Dorset] lasting for six days, viz. for four days before the Feast of the Translation of St Thomas the Martyr, and on the day of the Translation, and the morrow. And for having these fairs the Bishop shall quit-claim to the King the market which through the King's concession, he has established at his manor of Rammesbyr' [Ramsbury]and which was detrimental to the King's market at Merleberg' [Marlborough]. Nevertheless the Bishop's men can sell bread and ale and all other victuals at Rammesbyr' [Ramsbury]. Witnesses: Stephen de Segrave, Peter de Malo Lacu, Hugo de Vivon', John Byset, John son of Geoffrey, Bertram de Cryoyl, Geoffrey Dispens', Robert de Mul[cegros?], John de Plesset', Geoffrey de Cauz, Geoffrey de Lange', Thomas de Albo Monasterio.
