Description

Map 'zincographed' and published at the Ordnance Survey Office in Southampton in 1880 from a survey taken in 1879. Scale 10'56 Feet to One Statute Mile or 41'66 Feet to One Inch. Depicted on the map are the Close building and grounds with surrounding streets and fields, including part of the water meadows. Individual properties and land in the Close are coloured pink, blue, yellow and green. A note attached to the map reads 'The properties coloured Brown were acquired by the Dean and Chapter from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England'. There is no key indicating what the other colours stand for. A few manuscript annotations. On the reverse below the original title of the map is printed 'This map is the property of Messrs K. Macdonald & Malden, Salisbury'. At a later date the name 'John Hammond' has been added in pencil and there is also a partial impression of an ink stamp 'Hammond'.
