Description
A collection of 26 black and white prints showing work undertaken to repair the spire of Salisbury Cathedral, 1950-1955. Donated by Lesley Marks, grand-daughter of Frank Manuel, who features in the photographs (see Depositor Records).
Mrs Marks wrote in 2016: "My grandparents Frank and Mary Manuel had a boarding house at 23 St Marks Road and several of the stonemasons and steeplejacks were staying there. They offered Frank some simple jobs helping around the Cathedral. He was in his early 60's and a retired lorry driver but was pleased to be of use to them. He became part of the team and helped to put the new cross on the top of the spire".
