Description
A hand-written list of books moved from the Choristers' School to the Library in June 1918, on eight foolscap pages and one smaller page. Some of the paper seems to have been cut out of a ledger or similar. Numbers, not consecutive, are stamped in the top left-hand corner of eight of the pages. Six of the pages are numbered manually.
On the last sheet there is a summary list identifying "Owners and/or Donors of Books in Choristers Library".
On the verso of the last sheet:
"June 1918
Old Library
from the Choristers' School
Cecil Garstang
Donald E Havergal".
Also on this page there are references to:
1. The annotation, presumably by a pupil of the Choristers' School, in a 1553 volume of Cicero, "The 1st Mouse we killed was August the 2nd". This item is also marked with a cross on the penultimate page of the list of books.
2. "The furred skin or body of a Mouse" found on page 494 of a 1681 volume of Cicero. This is item 36 on the third page of the llist of books, where it is also annoted "skin and fur of a mouse". (No reference is made to the mouse skin to be found in a 1684 volume of Suetonius, also from the Choristers' School).
3. A 1684 volume of Cicero with a "sketch of master with pigtail" on a front end-paper. This item is also marked with a cross on the penultimate page of the list of books.
3. A book of 1517-1518 by Caelius Rhodiginus (or Lodovico or Ludovico Celio Ricchieri, 1469-1525), which is referred to as "rebound". This is item 11 on the first page of the list of books, where it is also annotated as "rebound". No other reason is evident for identifying this book separately.
