MS 152 'The Arlingham Breviary'
Description
Contains:
(1) Notes (possibly for a lecture) by Canon Christopher Wordsworth which includes reference to 'a great Benedictine missal which is now among the treasures of Alwick Castle. belonging to the Duke of Northumberland who kindly gave me one of the more rare copies which he printed for members of the Roxburgh Club'. These notes include a translation of the following inscription 'Pray for the soul of my lord [?] who directed this book for the cathedral church of Sarum, for a special memorial of himself and his wife' [it is not clear to which book this relates].
(2) 'Antiquities of Arlington Parish' a printed article by J Sayer accompanied by a letter (10 Sep 1925) from 'Carter' in which the article is sent to Canon Wordsworth as a gift. The letter also refers to the possible loan of MS 152 to the Church Congress Ecclesiastical Exhibition at Cheltenham.
(3) Various notes by Canon Wordsworth relating to the parish of Arlingham and MS 152.
(4) Two letters from Henry Bevis of Arlington vicarage asking for the loan of MS 152 for the exhibition and confirming an appointment with Canon Wordsworth to see the MS 152 at Salisbury (4 and 13 Sept 1925).
