Description

Mandate signed by John Douglas, Bishop of Salisbury (1792-1807), for the installation of William Douglas as Prebendary of "Fordington & Wrethelington [sic]". He was the son of the Bishop, born in 1768, and held the Prebend from 1799 until his death in 1819. He was a Canon Residentiary (1799-1819), Archdeacon of Wilts (1799-1804), Precentor of Sarum (1804-1819), Chancellor of the Diocese and Master of St Nicholas Hospital. Endorsed on the verso: "Mandate for Installat'n of Rev'd Mr Douglas Clk A.M. to pre'd of Fordington and Writhlington". William Douglas was also appointed Archdeacon of Wilts in the same month, March 1799. He appointed Proctors to act for him in relation to both this mandate and the mandate for his appointment as Archdeacon (see DA/9/1/6/2).
