Description

Certificate of John Honeywood, signed by Shute Barrington (Bishop of Salisbury, 1782-1791), prior to his admission to the Prebend of Netheravon (for the Mandate, see PR/NA/17). The Certificate confirms that John Honeywood "Did before his Admission . . . personally appear before us and subscribe to the thirty nine Articles of the Church of England Agreed upon in the Convocation holden on London in . . . [1562] . . . and to the three Articles in the Thirty sixth of the Ecclesiastical Canon published in . . . [1603] . . . and to all things that are contained in them". "And at the same time Did on the Holy Evangelists swear that he would be faithful and bear true Allegiance to his Majesty King George the third, And that he renounced all foreign Jurisdiction Power Superiority Preeminence or Authority Ecclesiastical or Spiritual within this realm, pursuant to an Act of Parliament made and published to that Effect". "And that he had not directly or indirectly obtained or procured that said Canonry or Prebend [of Netheravon] by any Simoniacal payment or Contract whatsoever". "And that he woud pay true and Canonical Obedience to us and our Successors . . . in all things lawfuland honest, And that he woud observe the Stautes and laudable Customs of our . . . Cathedral Church of Sarum". Endorsed on the verso: "25th of Novr 1788 Netheravon Cerificate".
