Description
Mandate signed by John Douglas, Bishop of Salisbury (1792-1807), for the installation of French Laurence as Prebendary of Shipton. He held the Prebend from 1796 until hiis death in 1809.
Between 1785 and 1796, French Laurence (1757-1809), an Oxford Doctor of Civil Law, worked with Edmund Burke (1729-1797) on the impeachment of Warren Hastings, and became Burke's literary executor. In 1796 he was appointed Regius Professor of Civil Law at Oxford and became Member of Parliament for Peterborough.
