Description

Letter to John Audrey Esquire from Bishop Shute Barrington, concerning donations to be given towards the work of improving Salisbury Cathedral. Attached to the letter is a list of names of persons who have already contributed. An inscription on the outside of the letter, possibly in the hand of Canon Christopher Wordsworth, reads: 'Collections towards beautifying Salisbury Cathedral. 1788 letter with signature of B[ishop] Shute Barrington given me by Mr Thomas [?Audrey] 10 May 1908. Her husband was grandson of the gentleman addressed'.
