Letter recommendatory in favour of (Ernest) Neville Lovett to be elected Bishop of Salisbury following the death of St Clair Donaldson on 7 December 1935. Signature, "Edward R.I." Edward VIII had acceded to the throne less than two months before the date of this document, upon the death of his father, George V, on 20 January 1936. The document bears the seal of his late father, impressed in black.
