Description

Congé d'Élire of Charles II for the appointment of a Bishop of Salisbury following the death of Alexander Hyde in 1667. The document includes ornamented initial capitals, the large "C" of "Carolus" incorporating a head and shoulders portrait of Charles II, and elaborate heraldic decoration and other flourishes. The (broken) seal is attached with intertwined gold and silver thread.
