Declaration of Trust by the Dean and Chapter of Sarum for the Benefit of the Library

Referring to a lease and release dated 28 and 29 September 1724 (CO/CH/5/1/36/7 and CO/CH/5/1/36/8), the indenture states that the late Isaac Walton one of the Canons Residentiary of the Cathedral by his last will and testament granted to the Fabric for the use of the Library the sum of £100 for some person to be named yearly by the Dean and Chapter to give such attendance there and the late Dr Wyatt one of the Canons Residentiary of the Cathedral did in his lifetime advance and pay unto the Dean and Chapter the sum of £50 for the same purposes as expressed in the last will of Isaac Walton. The Dean and Chapter acknowledge that they have received the sums of £100 and £50 and declare that £150 part of the £900 consideration money for the purchase of the inheritance of the hereditaments and premises in the indentures of lease and release expressed and contained are the same sums mentioned as aforesaid to be the donations of Canon Isaac Walton and Dr Wyatt. The Dean and Chapter declare that they and their successors forever are and shall stand and be seized of and in one sixth part of their yearly rents, issues and profits of the said hereditaments and premises, all deductions, payments and outgoings being in the first place allowed out of the whole yearly income of the estate to and for the uses, intents and purposes in the clause of the will of Canon Isaac Walton.
