Description
Counterpart of indenture made between William Dodwell Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and Thomas Lawes of Tilshed or Tilshead in the county of Wiltshire yeoman and William Lawes of the same place yeoman his son of the other part. The said Master and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said Thomas and William Lawes their messuage or tenement and two yards of land or two yard lands in Tilshead and their other messuage or tenement and two yards of land or two yard lands in Tilshead and also all ways, waters, easements, profits, commons, common of pasture, commodities, advantages, privileges, emoluments and appurtenances, all which said premises were in the possession of James Wadhams lately deceased and now in the possession of Thomas and William Lawes. Except a tenement with about 16 luggs of ground adjoining the premises on the east and north parts, a tenement late of John Payne on the west part and the Street or Highway on the south part, and also about 8 luggs of ground bounded by the farm called the South Farm on the south part, by the Street on the north part, by a tenement now or late of Giles Alexander on the west part and by a farm of [G]ore [?Hoare] on the east part, and except also the tenement with its appurtenances now or late in the possession of Giles Alexander and also except the quitrents or reserved rents of the excepted premises, and also except all metals, mines and quarries and trees (save lops or shrouds of pollard trees) together with free liberty of ingress, egress and regress with servants, horses, carts and carriages at all fit times to fell and take away the same. To have and to hold for 12 years. The annual rent was £43 10s at the two usual feasts of the year in equal portions, and £10 an acre for every acre of meadow and pasture ground (further terms given). Sealed and delivered, being first stamped, in the presence of William Whetmore and Thomas Frome.
