Description
Surrender of lease from James Palmer of Potterne in the county of Wiltshire yeoman and Elizabeth his wife (late Elizabeth Bartley) to the Dean and Chapter. An indenture of lease dated 14 Apr 1760 was made between Robert Sherard Clerk and Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and the said John Bartley of the other part of a piece or parcel of ground containing about 7 or 8 lugg in Tilshead to hold for and during the natural lives of Elizabeth Bartley wife of John Bartley, Elizabeth Bartley their daughter (now Elizabeth the wife of James Palmer) and Levi Baker of Tilshead, of whom Elizabeth the wife of James Palmer and Levi Baker are now only surviving. The said Elizabeth wife of James Palmer is desirous of having 2 lives added in the room of the said Elizabeth Bartley and Levi Baker and for that purpose the said James Palmer and Elizabeth his wife have agreed to surrender the said indenture of lease and the estate and premises to William Coxe Clerk and the Dean and Chapter. In consideration of the sum of 5s paid to the said James Palmer and Elizabeth by the Warden and Dean and Chapter they have surrendered and yielded up the estate and premises together with the indenture of lease to the intent that a new lease may be made and granted by the Warden and Dean and Chapter for and during the natural lives of Elizabeth Palmer age 47, Emma Elizabeth Glass age 5, and Ann Eliza Glass age 7 daughters of Moses Glass of Potterne innholder and Mary his wife. Signed, sealed and delivered, being first stamped, in the presence of Joseph Goss. This document was enclosed within CO/CH/5/1/36/22.
