Description

Release of two messuages or tenements, two yards of land or two yard lands and premises with the appurtenances in Tilshead. Indenture made between William Asheton [Ashton] of Deyne in the parish of Prestwich and county of Lancaster [Lancashire] Bachelor in Divinity, John Blackburn of Orford in the said county esquire and Katherine his wife and Dorothy Ashton of Deyne spinster (the which Katherine and Dorothy are the daughters and coheirs [coheirs] of Martha Ashton deceased by the said William Ashton her late husband and the said Martha Ashton was one of the daughters and coheirs of Stephen Gey clerk deceased) of the one part, and the Dean and Chapter of the other part. In consideration of the sum of £900 paid to William Ashton, John Blackburn, Katherine his wife and Dorothy Ashton by the Dean and Chapter, they release unto the Dean and Chapter in their actual possession now being by virtue of a bargain and sale to them thereof made for one year by indenture dated the day before the date of these presents all that messuage or tenement, two yards of land or two yard lands and premises with the appurtenances in Tilshed or Tilshead in the county of Wiltshire purchased of Robert late Lord Cecill [Cecil] and also that other messuage or tenement, two yards of land or two yard land and premises with the appurtenances in Tilshead purchased of Francis Meriwether and William Shergold both of Easterton in the county of Wiltshire yeoman to have and to hold forever. Witnessed by John S[eark], James Wilden, John Hamer, and Robert Bromley. The lease (which was enclosed in the release) has been catalogued under CO/C/5/1/36/7.
