Description
Licence in Mortmain for property in Tilshead. The text is as follows (not exact quote): the Dean and Chapter and Master of the Choristers have by their petition humbly represented unto us that they being trustees for the said Choristers have in their hands a sum of money belonging to them sufficient to purchase for their use an estate of the yearly value of 45 pounds that they have an offer of the purchase of an estate of inheritance of that value at Tilshead in the county of Wiltshire wherefore and in regard that such a purchase should be an act of charity and contribute to the better maintenance of the said poor Choristers they have most humbly besought us to grant to the said Dean and Chapter and Master of the Choristers for the time being our Royal Licence in Mortmain to purchase the said estate in Tilshead for the use of the said Choristers. We have thought fit to grant our said royal licence to the Dean and Chapter for the purposes aforesaid. We grant our especial licence, full power and lawful and absolute authority to purchase, acquire, take and hold in mortmain to and to the use of themselves and their successors in trust for the Choristers and their successors the said estate of inheritance in Tilshead with the appurtenances.
